Reclaimed Teak Furniture Indonesia: Eco-Friendly Luxury by Permata Furni

Custom Reclaimed Teak Table Furniture

Indonesia is the world’s primary source of aged-growth reclaimed teak, and Permata Furni is one of its longest-running factory-direct manufacturers. Based in Semarang, Central Java, we supply importers, hospitality groups, retailers, and interior designers across Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and North America with 100% reclaimed teak furniture manufactured to commercial specification. Every piece is built from timber salvaged from decommissioned structures — no new-growth forest, no plantation wood.

Why Indonesia for Reclaimed Teak Furniture?

Java and the surrounding Indonesian islands contain the largest stock of aged reclaimed teak in the world. For over a century, teak was used extensively in colonial-era bridges, railway sleepers, warehouse frames, boats, and residential structures. That timber — already 60 to 150 years old when salvaged — is the raw material Permata Furni works with exclusively.

This sourcing model has two commercial advantages that new-growth or plantation teak cannot match:

  • Density and oil content: Old-growth teak that has been in structural service for decades has far higher natural oil and silica content than plantation-grown material. This translates directly to superior weather resistance, dimensional stability, and lifespan — critical for outdoor and contract hospitality applications.
  • No new deforestation: Every cubic metre we process is salvaged from structures already past their service life. Reclaimed teak is the only teak source that carries a genuinely verifiable zero-deforestation provenance claim — sourced from decommissioned structures, not new-growth forest.
  • Factory-direct pricing: Indonesia’s manufacturing infrastructure — skilled craftspeople, established sawmill operations, and direct port access at Tanjung Emas, Semarang — allows us to offer production cost structures unavailable from European or Australian intermediaries. Buyers work directly with our factory, not through a trading house.
  • Scale and continuity: Our Semarang facility processes and manufactures year-round. We carry standing stock of reclaimed timber and can support repeat container orders across multiple seasons without material supply interruptions.

Reclaimed Teak Material Standards

Not all reclaimed teak is equivalent. Buyers sourcing from multiple Indonesian suppliers will encounter significant variation in timber grading, moisture content control, and joinery tolerances. Our material standards are:

  • Source verification: Timber is traced to specific demolition or salvage sites. We do not source from unverified aggregators or floating-stock traders.
  • Kiln-drying: All reclaimed timber is kiln-dried to 10–12% MC before milling. This is non-negotiable for international container shipments — air-dried-only material risks movement and checking on arrival in low-humidity markets (Northern Europe, air-conditioned interiors).
  • De-nailing and metal detection: All salvaged timber passes through metal detection before milling to remove embedded nails, bolts, and wire. This prevents blade damage and eliminates metal contamination in finished joinery.
  • Grading: We grade to Grade A (minimal checking, tight grain, no structural defects) for dining surfaces and visible panels; Grade B (character marking permitted, structurally sound) for bases, frames, and secondary surfaces. Grade is specified per SKU in our catalogue.
  • Surface finishing: Standard finish is lightly sanded raw teak with natural oil. Options include teak oil, Danish oil, light wash, dark wash, charcoal stain, and matt lacquer. Finish samples are available on request.

Custom Manufacturing from Buyer Specification

A significant share of our output is manufactured to custom specification for buyers who need sizes, configurations, or finishes outside our standard range. Common customisation requests include:

  • Non-standard tabletop dimensions (e.g. banquet tables 3m–6m, island bench tops)
  • Mixed-material construction (reclaimed teak top with powder-coated steel base, or teak frame with rope or fabric upholstery)
  • Custom branded hardware — buyers may supply hinges, handles, or drawer runners to spec
  • Private label — furniture shipped with buyer’s own brand label, hang tags, or packaging
  • Project-specific upholstery — buyers supply COM (customer’s own material) for seat pads, headboards, and banquette panels

Custom projects require a minimum of 10 units per specification. Production samples (pre-production prototypes) are available at cost before full production is committed. Lead time for custom specifications is 35–50 days ex-factory from sample approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is your reclaimed teak from Indonesia legally sourced?

Yes. All timber we process is sourced from demolition and salvage operations within Indonesia under valid local permits. Reclaimed teak salvaged from existing structures does not require the same export documentation as newly harvested timber, but we maintain a complete sourcing paper trail for each lot. Documentation is available to buyers on request.

What is the difference between reclaimed teak and recycled teak?

The terms are used interchangeably in the trade. Both refer to teak timber salvaged from existing structures and given a second working life as furniture. “Recycled teak” and “reclaimed teak” describe the same material and the same sourcing model — no new-growth trees are felled.

Can I order a mix of SKUs in one container?

Yes. Container orders can combine multiple SKUs, provided each SKU within the order meets its individual MOQ. We provide container fill calculations with each quotation so buyers can optimise cubic metre usage before committing.

Do you offer product catalogues with dimensions and pricing?

Yes. Our full B2B catalogue includes product dimensions, timber grade, standard finish options, carton dimensions, CBM per unit, and container fill data. Wholesale pricing is provided separately under NDA on request. Contact us with your company details and intended order volumes to receive both.

What destinations do you regularly ship to?

We ship regular FCL containers to Rotterdam (Netherlands), Felixstowe (UK), Fremantle and Melbourne (Australia), Jebel Ali (Dubai), and Los Angeles (USA). We can ship to any port worldwide — buyers in other markets should contact us for freight cost estimates to their nearest port of entry.

How do I start a wholesale account with Permata Furni?

Contact us with your company name, country, product interest, and approximate order volume. We will respond within one business day with a catalogue, a product availability list, and a request for any custom specifications you need quoted. There is no registration fee or minimum commitment to open a wholesale account.
