Outdoor furniture is usually the last big order on a hotel’s FF&E schedule, and it often becomes the item that holds up a soft opening. Pool decks, terraces and garden areas can’t be fitted out until the build is nearly done, yet the furniture has to be made and shipped months earlier. This guide shows how to build a hotel outdoor furniture procurement timeline for an order from Indonesia, working backwards from opening day, with real week counts by destination.
The figures come from our own factory in Semarang. They’re before customs clearance, inland delivery and installation, which your forwarder and site team will add.
For a custom order from Semarang, plan roughly 10 to 18 weeks from sample request to the furniture reaching your port, depending on destination. Stock items take about 5 to 11 weeks. Add a margin of several weeks on top for customs clearance, delivery and installation, and place the order before the building is finished, not after.
These totals add up our stage times and ocean transit. Custom orders include the sample (15 to 30 days) and production (45 to 60 days from sample approval). Stock orders use our stock lead time (30 to 45 days ex-factory).
| Destination | Ocean transit | Custom order, to port | Stock order, to port |
|---|---|---|---|
| Southeast Asia | 7–14 days | 10–15 weeks | 5–8 weeks |
| Maldives and South Asia | 14–21 days | 11–16 weeks | 6–9 weeks |
| Australia | 10–18 days | 10–15 weeks | 6–9 weeks |
| Middle East | 18–25 days | 11–16 weeks | 7–10 weeks |
| Europe | 25–35 days | 12–18 weeks | 8–11 weeks |
Transit times are typical FOB Semarang figures for sea freight, and they vary with routing and port. Our resort furniture supplier Asia page has the regional table, and importing teak furniture from Indonesia covers routes in more detail.
| Stage | What happens | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Specification freeze | Quantities per zone, finishes, hardware and branding agreed | Your decision, before any request |
| 2. Quote and sample | Feasibility review, quote, physical sample or finish swatch | Sample 15–30 days |
| 3. Sample approval and PO | Sign-off, purchase order, 50% deposit | The clock for production starts here |
| 4. Production | Timber allocation, joinery, finishing, quality control | 45–60 days custom, 30–45 days stock |
| 5. Packing and loading | Export packing, loading, 50% against Bill of Lading | Included in production time |
| 6. Ocean transit | FOB Semarang (Tanjung Emas Port) to your port | 7–35 days by destination |
| 7. Customs, delivery, install | Clearance, inland freight, placement and snagging | Your forwarder and site team |
Notice where the biggest swing sits: stage 2 to 3. Production time is fixed once the sample is approved, but the time to get there depends on how fast your team and designer sign off. A week lost in approval is a week off the end of the schedule.
Say a resort in Southeast Asia opens its pool deck on 1 September and wants the furniture installed two weeks earlier, on 18 August. Allow two weeks for customs, delivery and installation, so the container should be at port by about 4 August. A custom order needs 10 to 15 weeks to reach port, plus a buffer of three to four weeks, so samples should be requested 13 to 19 weeks before 4 August, between about 24 March and 5 May. A stock order needs 5 to 8 weeks plus the same buffer, which puts the order 8 to 12 weeks before 4 August, between about 12 May and 9 June.

Custom orders take 45 to 60 days from sample approval, and the sample itself takes 15 to 30 days. Stock items take 30 to 45 days ex-factory.
Typical sea freight from Semarang is 7 to 14 days to Southeast Asia, 10 to 18 days to Australia, 14 to 21 days to the Maldives and South Asia, 18 to 25 days to the Middle East and 25 to 35 days to Europe.
Late sample approval and design changes after the purchase order. Production time is fixed once the sample is approved, so a fast and clear sign-off protects the schedule.
Yes, and it usually has to be. Order against the approved furniture schedule, then confirm whether your site can store a delivered container if the opening date moves.
Before you build the schedule, finish the specification sheet in our hotel furniture procurement guide. For the resort-specific picture, see our resort outdoor furniture supplier page.
