Buyers searching for an SVLK and FSC certified reclaimed teak supplier usually want one thing: proof. The trouble is that “certified” is used loosely, and the two certificates answer different questions. This guide explains what SVLK and FSC each prove, how FSC treats reclaimed teak, and how to check a supplier’s paperwork yourself. We also show our own record, so you can see how the checks work on a real certificate.
SVLK is Indonesia’s mandatory timber legality system and proves legal origin and legal export documents. FSC is a voluntary chain-of-custody system that proves what happens to certified or reclaimed material through manufacturing, and the claim, such as FSC Recycled, must appear on each invoice. Neither replaces the other, and neither replaces EU or US import declarations.
| SVLK | FSC Chain of Custody | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Indonesia’s Timber Legality Assurance System | An international, voluntary certification scheme |
| Required? | Yes, for wood-based exports from Indonesia | No, a commercial choice |
| Main question it answers | Was this timber legally sourced and legally exported? | Can this material be traced through manufacturing, and what claim is allowed on the product? |
| Shipment-level proof | A V-Legal document for each export shipment | An FSC claim and the license code on the invoice and delivery documents |
| Doesn’t prove | Anything about the forest management beyond the system’s own requirements | Legal import status in your country |
For the SVLK side, our reclaimed teak sourcing and chain of custody guide shows how to test the documents, and the importing guide covers the V-Legal paperwork.
Reclaimed teak did not come from a certified forest, so it can’t carry an “FSC 100%” claim just because it’s teak. FSC has a separate standard, FSC-STD-40-007, for sourcing reclaimed material for use in FSC product groups, which is the route to the FSC Recycled claim. A processor has to be audited against that standard before it can use reclaimed timber this way.
Here are the three claims you’ll see, and what they mean for teak:
| Claim | What it means | Fits reclaimed teak? |
|---|---|---|
| FSC Recycled | Made from verified reclaimed or recycled material | Yes, this is the claim for reclaimed timber |
| FSC 100% | Made only from material from FSC-certified forests | No, that is for forest-certified timber |
| FSC Mix | A mix of certified, reclaimed and controlled material | Only where the certificate lists it |
RecycleTeak’s furniture is made by PT Risafa Mandiri Selaras. This is what our public FSC record shows:
| Item | Record |
|---|---|
| Certificate holder | PT Risafa Mandiri Selaras, Semarang, Central Java |
| License code | FSC-C231531 (certificate code PBN-COC-088770) |
| Status | Valid |
| Validity | First issued 17 September 2026, expires 16 September 2031 |
| Standards assessed | FSC-STD-40-007 V2-0 (reclaimed material) and FSC-STD-40-004 V3-1 (chain of custody) |
| Species | Tectona grandis (teak) |
| Activity | Secondary processor |
| Product categories | Doors and door frames, wall cladding, cabinets, tables, beds, kitchen countertops, garden furniture, other furniture and garden products, ornamental and decorative objects |
| Claims listed | FSC Recycled for all nine categories. FSC 100% for six: cabinets, tables, beds, countertops, garden furniture and other furniture and garden products |
Two things in that record are easy to miss. First, the claim belongs to a category, so a product has to fall inside one of the listed categories to carry it. Second, our legality side is separate: SVLK VLHH-33-07-0834. The FSC record doesn’t replace it.
Our certificate was first issued in September 2026, so we don’t describe ourselves as having held FSC certification for years, and you shouldn’t accept that from any supplier without checking the dates. If you want an FSC claim on an order, ask for it before you order, so it appears on the invoice and delivery documents with our license code, and we’ll confirm per order whether the material supports it.
FSC itself notes that certification data is maintained by the certification body that issues the certificate, so treat the public search as your starting point and ask the supplier for the full record.
Certificates support your compliance file, but they don’t discharge your own obligations as an importer. EU buyers should read our guide to EUDR and teak furniture, where an SVLK certificate alone doesn’t satisfy the regulation. US buyers need the declaration covered in our Lacey Act guide. For the whole specification, see the hotel furniture procurement guide.

SVLK is Indonesia’s mandatory timber legality system and covers legal origin and legal export documents. FSC is a voluntary international system that tracks certified or reclaimed material through manufacturing and controls which claim a product may carry.
Reclaimed teak can carry the FSC Recycled claim when the processor is certified and audited against FSC-STD-40-007, the standard for sourcing reclaimed material. It cannot carry FSC 100%, which is for material from FSC-certified forests.
Look up the license code on the FSC public search, confirm the holder matches your supplier, read the status, dates, product categories and claims, and make sure the claim and license code appear on the invoice and delivery documents.
No. A certificate lists product categories and claims, so each product you buy must fall inside a listed category, and the claim must be stated on the invoice for that shipment.
They support your evidence but do not replace your own obligations. The EUDR needs its own due diligence and the Lacey Act needs a declaration filed by the importer, so ask your customs broker how each applies to your shipment.
