Teak Outdoor Furniture Manufacturer: A B2B Buyer’s Guide to Choosing and Auditing Your Supplier

PPIC team planning reclaimed teak furniture production and design at an Indonesian furniture factory

RecycleTeak is a teak outdoor furniture manufacturer based in Semarang, Central Java. We mill, join, finish and pack every piece at our own 11,000 sqm factory, and we ship up to 10 containers per month to hotels, resorts, beach clubs and furniture brands in more than 40 countries. This guide is what we’d want a procurement manager to read before signing a first purchase order with any teak factory, ours included.

What a Teak Outdoor Furniture Manufacturer Actually Does

A teak outdoor furniture manufacturer is a factory that mills, joins, finishes and packs teak furniture under its own roof instead of reselling pieces made elsewhere. For a B2B buyer the difference shows up in two places: who controls the timber, and who answers when a container arrives wrong.

Search “teak outdoor furniture manufacturer” and you’ll get a mix. Some results are real factories. Others are trading companies with a nice showroom, or workshops that subcontract the hard parts. They all quote you a price. Only one of them can tell you which beam your table top came from and let you walk the line where it was built.

TypeControls timber?Controls quality? What you should ask
ManufacturerYes, own intake and kilnYes, own QC at each stageCan I visit, and can I see the production plan for my order?
Trading companyNoPartly, through inspectionWhich factory makes this, and is the legality certificate in the factory’s name?
WorkshopSometimesVaries with volumeWhat happens to my lead time when I order 200 units, not 20?

Traders aren’t automatically bad. But a trader’s margin sits between you and the factory, and when something goes wrong, the message takes two hops to reach the person who can fix it. Our full checklist for telling the difference is in the reclaimed teak sourcing and chain of custody audit guide.

Teak Grades for Outdoor Projects

“Grade A teak” is on almost every supplier’s website, and it means little unless you know which part of the piece it applies to. On outdoor furniture, we specify grade by component, not by product.

GradeWhere it goesWhat you’ll see
AVisible surfaces: table tops, seat slats, lounger decksTight, consistent grain with few knots and minimal colour variation
BStructural parts: frames, legs, stretchersSound timber with more visible knots and tone variation, hidden or low-visibility positions
CShort, non-load-bearing stockUsed only in laminated or secondary parts, never as primary structure

Two things matter more than the letter. First, whether your PO says “Grade A visible surfaces” or just “Grade A teak”, because the second wording lets a supplier put premium timber on one table and call the whole order compliant. Second, who does the grading. Ours is done by hand at intake, and the full A/B/C framework is explained in our reclaimed teak grading guide.

Reclaimed Teak Outdoors: What Changes

Our core range is 100% reclaimed teak, salvaged from demolished Javanese buildings. Plantation teak is available for specifications that require it, but it’s the secondary line. For outdoor use, the reclaimed material changes three practical things:

  • Stability. The timber spent decades inside a structure, so most of its movement already happened. It cups and twists less under sun, rain and humidity swings.
  • Oil content. Slow-grown, long-seasoned heartwood tends to carry more natural oil, which is what resists moisture and rot.
  • Documentation. Reclaimed timber isn’t a forest-certification product, so the proof is a beam-sourcing record and V-Legal paperwork rather than a forest label.

The side-by-side comparison, with the weathering behaviour of each, is in why reclaimed teak outperforms plantation teak outdoors, and the product-level detail lives on our reclaimed teak outdoor furniture page. If you’re worried about being sold new teak that’s been stained to look old, read how to identify authentic reclaimed teak before your next inspection.

From Beam Yard to Container: How We Build Outdoor Teak Furniture

Most competitor pages stop at the product photo. Here is what actually happens between a salvaged beam and a sealed container at our Semarang factory, in order.

1. Intake and grading

Salvaged timber arrives, is de-nailed, and is measured and sorted by hand. Pieces with active rot, insect damage or heavy bolt scarring are rejected at this point instead of being filled and hidden later. It’s the least glamorous step and the one that decides how long the furniture lasts outside.

2. Planning and design review (PPIC)

Our production planning and inventory control team reviews your drawings, allocates graded stock to the order, and fixes the production schedule. This is where a custom size gets flagged as a problem, before any wood is cut, not after.

3. Kiln drying, milling and joinery

Timber is kiln-dried to the moisture target for outdoor service and container transit, then milled and joined. Joinery is mortise and tenon, dowel, or bolted steel, chosen per product and load, and all outdoor hardware is 316 marine-grade stainless steel.

4. Finishing and quality control

The standard finish is teak oil, and the piece is then checked against the approved sample for dimensions, joint fit and surface. Dimension checks are done by tape and gauge on the floor, not by eye.

5. Packing and loading

Pieces are wrapped, boxed and palletised, flat-packed where the design allows, then loaded for export from Semarang. Packing is where a lot of otherwise good furniture gets damaged, so it’s done in-house too.

Specifications to Put in Your PO

A vague PO is how a “teak table” turns into a different table than the one you approved. These are the lines we’d put in writing for any outdoor order:

SpecificationWhat to write
TimberReclaimed teak, Grade A on visible surfaces, or solid plantation teak, stated per SKU
Moisture content10–12% kiln-dried for outdoor exposure and container transit
JoineryMortise and tenon, dowel, or bolted steel, stated per product
Hardware316 marine-grade stainless steel throughout
FinishNatural teak oil as standard. UV-stable exterior oil, grey wash, charcoal stain or exterior matt lacquer on request
StackabilityDining chairs and sun loungers designed for 6–10 unit stacking where space is limited
Approval sampleSigned-off sample with finish reference before full production
BrandingLaser engraving, branded hardware or custom sling fabric, if required

The 316 versus 304 line matters most for pool decks and coastal sites. Cheaper outdoor furniture often uses 304, and it starts to show rust spots in salt air. For the full commercial spec and product ranges, see our commercial outdoor teak furniture supplier page.

OEM, Custom and Catalog Orders

We take three kinds of orders, and they don’t behave the same way.

Order typeStarting pointMOQTypical path
CatalogA piece from the outdoor collection20 units per SKUConfirm finish, approve PO, produce from stock lead time
Custom specificationA catalog piece in your size, finish or hardware10 units per SKUDrawing review, sample, sample approval, then production
OEM / own designYour drawings or CAD filesScoped per projectFeasibility review, prototype, approval, production

For hotel and resort fit-outs the usual question is whether we can match something already on the property. Send photos and dimensions and we’ll tell you the closest match in the current range, or quote a custom run. Fully bespoke work is covered on our custom teak furniture Indonesia supplier page, and project-scale FF&E on the contract furniture manufacturer Indonesia page. You can also start from our custom project brief.

Capacity, MOQ and Lead Times

Capacity claims are cheap, so here is what we’re willing to put in writing.

ParameterDetail
Factory11,000 sqm, Semarang, Central Java
Operating since2000
Monthly capacityUp to 10 containers per month
MOQ20 units per SKU (catalog), 10 units per SKU (custom specification)
Lead time, stock items20–30 days ex-factory
Lead time, custom35–50 days from sample approval
IncotermsFOB Semarang (Tanjung Emas Port)
Payment50% deposit on order confirmation, 50% against Bill of Lading
LoadingFull container load (FCL), with LCL consolidation available

Our largest hotel orders have run to 200–500 units across multiple SKUs, which is why a full pool deck or terrace fit-out rarely strains the minimums. Capacity is shared across all customers in a given month, so confirm slots early for peak-season openings. Legality and Export Documents

RecycleTeak is the brand of PT Risafa Mandiri Selaras, the company that operates the Semarang factory described in this guide. We hold two documents buyers ask for most:

DocumentReferenceWhat it does
SVLK (Timber Legality Assurance System)VLHH-33-07-0834Indonesia’s mandatory legality system, the basis for the V-Legal documents required on timber exports
FSC® Chain of CustodyFSC-C231531, valid through September 2031Tracks certified material through manufacturing

Don’t take a supplier’s word for either. Ask for the certificate, check that the holder’s name matches the company you’re contracting with, and look up the FSC code in the public database at info.fsc.org. A certificate in a trading company’s name tells you about the trader, not the factory.

Standard shipping paperwork for an order includes the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, plus V-Legal documentation where required by the destination market. Terms are quoted under Incoterms, with FOB Semarang as the default.

How to Audit a Teak Outdoor Furniture Manufacturer

If you only have an hour before a supplier call, ask for these six things:

  1. The legality certificate, in the factory’s own name.
  2. Beam sourcing records for the timber in your order.
  3. A live video walk through the timber yard and the production floor.
  4. Order traceability, meaning how a finished piece links back to its batch.
  5. Their V-Legal documentation history on past shipments.
  6. References from repeat buyers in your market.

Red flags: a showroom with no factory behind it, “unlimited stock” of reclaimed product, and certificates that name a different company. The full framework is in the buyer’s audit guide. We built our process to survive exactly this kind of audit, and we’d rather you run it on us than skip it.

Who We Supply

Our outdoor ranges go to hotels and resorts, beach clubs, restaurant terraces, retail furniture brands and FF&E procurement companies. A recent example is the outdoor furniture we supplied to Fira Beach Club in Phuket, and the hospitality specification detail is in our guide to commercial outdoor furniture for hospitality and high-traffic projects. For more on the company and the factory, see About Us and our overview of Indonesia teak furniture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which grade of teak is best for outdoor furniture?

Specify Grade A for visible surfaces such as table tops and seat slats, and sound Grade B for hidden structural parts. Write the grade per component in your PO. A line that only says Grade A teak lets a supplier use premium wood on some parts and lower grades on others.

Is reclaimed teak suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. Reclaimed teak has already spent decades seasoning inside a building, so it moves less outdoors than young plantation timber. Combined with sound joinery and 316 marine-grade hardware, it suits permanent hotel, resort and beach club installations.

How do I verify a teak furniture manufacturer is legitimate?

Ask for the legality certificate and check that the holder is the factory itself, not a trading company. Look up any FSC code in the public database, request beam sourcing records, and ask for a live video walk through the factory floor and timber yard.

What is the typical MOQ for OEM teak outdoor furniture?

Our standard MOQ is 20 units per SKU for catalog items and 10 units per SKU for custom specifications. OEM orders built to your own drawings are scoped per project after a feasibility review.

How long do production and shipping take?

Stock items run 20 to 30 days ex-factory in Semarang. Custom orders run 35 to 50 days from sample approval. Ocean transit time depends on your destination port, so we quote it per shipment.

Does outdoor teak furniture need sealing?

No. Teak’s natural oils protect it, and it can be left to weather to a silver-grey tone. If you prefer the original honey colour, a single annual application of teak oil is enough. See our teak care guide for the full routine.
